Changes to SBA WOSB/EDWOSB Certification

Share

It’s important to be aware of the SBA’s new certification process for WOSB/EDWOSB. As of October 15, 2020, all new WOSB/EDWOSB set asides posted in this socio-economic category will only be awarded to firms who have officially applied for, and were approved by, the SBA on their new site, https://beta.certify.sba.gov/. If you are only self-certified in the old site, certify.sba.gov, you will not be qualified to bid on new set asides and still need to apply through the new site. If you are third party certified, you still need to apply on the new site and need to upload your 3rd party certifier certificate.

As a PTAC client, assistance in the certification process is part of the service we provide free of charge.  We have already assisted dozens of firms to successfully navigate the application process so please allow us to go through the process with you. If you want to know more about how we may assist with this process please reach out to your counselor or email us directly at ptac@gmu.edu. Not yet a client? JR Landworks, LLC wins Department of Army Contract

Share

Jerry Baigis, owner of JR Landworks, LLC out of Marshall, Virginia, performs integrated land and vegetation management to promote desirable, stable, low-growing plant communities that will resist invasion by tall growing tree species. JR Landworks has completed rights-of-way clearing work for water & sewer authorities, natural gas providers, commercial developers, wetland remediation contractors, large farm operators, and others.

In seeking to expand his government client portfolio, Jerry approached Virginia PTAC for assistance in obtaining his status with the Vets First Verification Program as a VA certified service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB). Virginia PTAC counselor Daryl Corley worked closely with Jerry to ensure he was successful in receiving approval from the Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) and also counseled him on RFQs and other available resources to assist him in pursuit of submitting successful bids. Jerry knew he wanted to locate the most relevant bids for his company to compete and subsequently subscribed to the Virginia PTAC Bid Match Service. With the assistance of PTAC staff, he tailored his Bid Match profile to receive those solicitations most closely aligned to the work by adding keywords and checking his search parameters to add missing PSC categories when the results were too narrow in comparison to his eVA search results.

After successfully modifying his search profile, the client was able to bid on and win a contract with the Department of Army for Forestry Management Services at the Army’s Adelphi (Maryland) Laboratory Center (ALC) and Blossom Point Research Facility (BPRF) at Welcome, Maryland with the face value of $659,809. Congratulations to our client Jerry Baigis on his win and best wishes for additional success in the future!

Beware GovCon Predators

Share

This real looking website is actually a fake.

Please don’t be duped into giving away your login.gov password by a fraudulent website using phishing and website spoofing to make you believe you landed on the correct page. This one will be taken down but more will take its place so practice safe and sensible precautions such as:

  • Avoid clicking on links sent by someone you don’t know and/or weren’t expecting a message from;
  • Look for typos in emails and website addresses. sam-gov is NOT the same as sam.gov;
  • Don’t rely on a browser or search engine to give you the right website. Ads and clever page rank strategies can often push the illegitimate websites into the first search results you see;
  • Teach yourself about cybersecurity and attend our upcoming CMMC training to become savvy and recognize the tricks employed by these predators. Find the latest training by searching our events calendar: https://virginiaptac.ecenterdirect.com/events and use the key word CMMC in your search
